One of the new initiatives of the consortium is the development of online course materials for international business courses. Teams of faculty members from throughout the consortium work together to design and co-teach online courses that focus on the dynamics of doing business in the Asia-Pacific region. These course modules will be available to consortium member faculty in the future. Four faculty teams are currently working on the following courses:

1.Course Title:Sustainable Development in East Asia
Faculty Team Leader:Dr. Rosita Chang (University of Hawai`i, US)
Contributing Faculty:Dr. Reg Kwok (University of Hawai`i, US), faculty member from National Taiwan University and other PACIBER member schools.
Design:This is an inter-disciplinary course that focuses on the economic, environmental and cultural development aspects of sustainable development in East Asia (China, Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong). Each faculty is expected to deliver a lecture and then lead the class discussion on the subject. Some of these lectures will be taped during the summer of 2001. The pilot course will be offered in Fall 2001 using a hybrid format, that is, using both face-to-face as well as taped lectures. These lectures will be taped and later converted to RealVideo format for delivery via the World Wide Web. Guest lecturers will be expected to conduct online discussions with students during the week of their lecture.

2.Course Title:Managing Diversity in the Global Workplace
Faculty Team Leader:Dr. Dharm Bhawuk (University of Hawai`i, US)
Contributing Faculty:Dr. Mannsoo Shin (Korea University, Korea) and Dr. Edwin Miller (University of Michigan, US). One other PACIBER faculty from either the University of Melbourne or the Universitas Indonesia will be invited to join the team.
Design:The objective of this course is to expose students to various aspects of diversity that characterize the workplace both nationally and internationally. The course utilizes various video clips to serve as starting points for discussions on the challenges of managing a global workforce and/or working within such an environment.

3.Course Title:Foreign Direct Investment Environment of the Asia-Pacific Region
Faculty Team Leader:Dr. Lew Howell (American Graduate School of International Management-Thunderbird, US)
Contributing Faculty:Faculty from the National University of Singapore and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
Design:The course will contain elements of Internet interaction, video clips or longer lectures, "chat room" opportunities for live discussion with the faculty, online delivery and receipt of assignments, and online testing.

4.Course Title:Cross-cultural Management Issues in Asia Pacific
Faculty Team Leader:Dr. Manuel Serapio (University of Colorado at Denver, US)
Contributing Faculty:Dr. Prem Ramburuth (University of New South Wales, Australia), Dr. Mari Honda (Asian Institute of Management, Philippines), and faculty member from Chulalongkorn University (Thailand)
Design:The pilot course was offered at the University of Colorado-Denver (UCD) in Spring 2001 and a hybrid course with both face-to-face and web-based materials is being offered this summer at the University of Hawaii. There are plans to offer the full online course in Spring 2002 at the University of Colorado-Denver and at the University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM) in the summer of 2002
